What is breast reconstruction
If you are considering breast reconstruction
Breast reconstruction rebuilds the shape of a breast after mastectomy or lumpectomy. It is reconstructive rather than cosmetic surgery, and it is planned around your cancer treatment rather than the other way round.
There is more than one way to do it. Reconstruction can use an implant, your own tissue, or a combination of the two, and it can begin at the time of your mastectomy or months and years afterwards. Which approach suits you depends on your anatomy, your treatment plan, and what matters most to you.
Are you a candidate?
Most patients come to Dr. Hosn after a diagnosis, often with a referral from their breast surgeon or oncologist. The consultation is where the options get narrowed down to the ones that actually apply to you.
What to expect
Reconstruction is usually performed under general anesthesia. Operating time, facility and recovery depend on which approach you and Dr. Hosn choose, and on whether reconstruction happens at the same time as your mastectomy or later. Those specifics are set at consultation rather than in advance.
Reconstruction is frequently staged. A first operation establishes the shape, and a later, smaller procedure refines it. Dr. Hosn will walk you through the full sequence, including how many operations to expect and roughly when, before anything is scheduled.

Planning your consultation
In your initial consultation, Dr. Hosn will spend the time needed to understand your situation, perform a complete examination, review your treatment plan, and explain which reconstructive options are realistic for you.
Reconstruction is a decision made in the middle of cancer treatment, which is a difficult time to weigh anything. Dr. Hosn will coordinate with your breast surgeon and oncology team so the plan fits your care, and he will tell you plainly when waiting is the better option.

Where would you
like to start?
Every plastic surgery procedure is performed by Dr. Hosn himself, in an accredited outpatient surgical center, with the same standard applied whether it is a fifteen-minute injectable or a five-hour abdominoplasty.
Face
Lifting what has descended, opening what has hooded, and softening what has etched in. Surgical and non-surgical.
Breast
Size, shape and position are three separate questions. The consultation is where you work out which one you are asking.
Body
For contour that diet and training have stopped changing, usually after pregnancy or significant weight loss.
Skin
The daily work that decides how the surgical work ages. Medical-grade formulations, prescribed rather than picked off a shelf.
