What is breast reduction
If you are considering breast reduction
Breast reduction, technically known as reduction mammoplasty, is designed for women with large, pendulous breasts. The procedure removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin, making the breasts smaller, lighter, and firmer, and it can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple.
The goal is smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of the body. For many women the relief is as much practical as it is aesthetic.
- Smaller, lighter breasts in better proportion to your frame
- Relief from back, neck and shoulder pain, and improved posture
- The ability to exercise comfortably
- Less skin irritation beneath the breast and less grooving from bra straps
- More confidence, and far more clothing that simply fits
Are you a candidate?
The best candidates for breast reduction are healthy women looking for improvement in the way they look and feel. Most patients come to Dr. Hosn for one or more of four reasons.
What to expect
Breast reduction usually takes three to four and a half hours under general anesthesia, and is typically performed in an accredited outpatient surgical center. The most common technique uses an anchor-shaped incision, also called an inverted-T, which circles the areola, extends downward, and follows the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. It allows the greatest amount of tissue to be removed and the breast to be reshaped rather than simply reduced.
Dr. Hosn removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin, moves the nipple and areola into their new position, then brings the skin from both sides of the breast down and around the areola to shape the new contour. Most patients return to work in about two weeks, resume light exercise at three weeks, and return to full activity at six weeks or more, with final results typically visible at twelve months.

Planning your consultation
In your initial consultation, Dr. Hosn will spend the time needed to understand your goals, perform a complete examination, and make recommendations tailored to your anatomy. Our office is committed to educating every patient on the risks, benefits, and alternatives of this procedure.
The typical patient meets with Dr. Hosn three times before proceeding with any major procedure. That matters especially for breast surgery, where those conversations define your expectations for size, shape, and scarring well before any commitment is made.

Lifting what has descended, opening what has hooded, and softening what has etched in. Surgical and non-surgical.
Breast
Size, shape and position are three separate questions. The consultation is where you work out which one you are asking.
Body
For contour that diet and training have stopped changing, usually after pregnancy or significant weight loss.
Skin
The daily work that decides how the surgical work ages. Medical-grade formulations, prescribed rather than picked off a shelf.
